Tickfaw, LA (October 28, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred on Sunday, October 27, at approximately 11:00 a.m. on LA Hwy 1064 at Addison Road, resulting in the death of a Denham Springs resident. Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating the crash, which claimed the life of 31-year-old Brandon Scott McAlister.
Preliminary investigations revealed that McAlister was riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound in the eastbound lane of LA Hwy 1064. Following him was a second motorcycle, a 2021 Harley-Davidson, also traveling westbound in the eastbound lane. At the same time, a 2005 Toyota Corolla was approaching from the opposite direction, traveling westbound in its designated lane toward Addison Road. As the Corolla began to slow down and turn left before reaching the intersection, McAlister’s motorcycle struck the rear of the Corolla, leading to his ejection from the bike. The second Harley-Davidson motorcycle then collided with McAlister’s motorcycle, resulting in the driver of that motorcycle also being ejected.
Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, McAlister sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 2021 Harley-Davidson, who was also wearing a helmet, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the driver of the Corolla was properly restrained and uninjured, providing a breath sample that tested 0.000 g%. Routine toxicology tests are being conducted on the drivers of both motorcycles as part of the ongoing investigation.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Brandon Scott McAlister during this difficult time.
Motorcycle Accidents in Louisiana
Motorcycle accidents are a significant concern in Louisiana, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities. According to recent statistics, motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable on the road due to their lack of protection compared to larger vehicles. The risk of serious injury increases dramatically in the event of a collision, underscoring the importance of safety measures such as wearing helmets and adhering to traffic laws.
In Louisiana, the law mandates that all motorcycle riders wear helmets, which can significantly reduce the risk of fatal injuries. However, even with safety gear, the nature of motorcycle riding exposes operators to greater risks, especially when involved in multi-vehicle accidents.
If you or someone you love has been involved in a motorcycle accident, it is crucial to seek legal guidance to understand your rights and options. Engaging with a knowledgeable attorney can help ensure that victims receive the compensation they deserve for their injuries and losses.
