Pedestrian Accidents in Maryland
Pedestrian accidents are a growing concern in Maryland and across the country, especially in urban areas like Temple Hills, where busy roadways create heightened risks for those on foot.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 7,300 pedestrians lost their lives in traffic crashes in 2021, with tens of thousands more suffering injuries. Many of these collisions occur at night when visibility is reduced, making it difficult for drivers to react in time.
While some pedestrian accidents result from driver inattention or excessive speed, others may be linked to poor lighting, lack of crosswalks, or pedestrian behavior. Officials stress the importance of both driver awareness and pedestrian caution to prevent these tragic incidents.
