Tazewell County, VA (February 26, 2025) – A tragic single-vehicle crash on Abbs Valley Road claimed the life of a North Carolina man and left two passengers injured on Monday afternoon.
According to the Virginia State Police, the accident occurred around 4:40 p.m. when a 2013 Chevy Silverado, driven by 32-year-old Albert M. Bright of King, North Carolina, was traveling north in the 6200 block of Abbs Valley Road at a high rate of speed. The truck veered off the right side of the road, struck an embankment, and crashed into a rock wall before hitting a fence. The impact sent the vehicle airborne before it ultimately collided with an abandoned house.
Emergency responders arrived to find Bright fatally injured at the scene. Two passengers in the truck, 55-year-old Lee A. Franklin and 49-year-old Richard A. Bright, also suffered injuries. Franklin sustained serious injuries, while Bright’s injuries were described as minor.
Authorities confirmed that none of the three occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Albert Bright, and we hope for the recovery of the injured victims.
Deadly Single-Vehicle Accidents in Virginia
Single-vehicle crashes can be just as devastating as multi-car collisions, particularly when speeding or lack of seatbelt use is involved. In Virginia, rural roads like Abbs Valley Road present unique dangers due to sharp curves, narrow lanes, and limited visibility. Losing control at high speeds can lead to severe or fatal outcomes, as seen in this tragic crash.
Seatbelt use remains one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death in an accident. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly half of all fatal crash victims nationwide were not wearing seatbelts. This accident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of proper safety precautions while driving.
Victims of serious crashes often face extensive medical treatments, emotional trauma, and financial hardships. When negligence or road hazards contribute to an accident, injured parties may have legal options for seeking compensation.
