Taylor County, FL (February 26, 2025) – One man lost his life, and another was critically injured early Tuesday morning after two semi-trucks collided head-on on U.S. 221, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred just before 8:45 a.m. north of Boyd Road. Authorities reported that a 71-year-old Lafayette County man was driving a semi-truck northbound when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle struck a guardrail on the east shoulder. The truck then veered into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a semi-truck driven by a 52-year-old Missouri man.
Following the impact, the 71-year-old driver’s semi-truck went off the west side of the roadway, crashed over a guardrail, and broke into several pieces. Meanwhile, the 52-year-old’s semi-truck jackknifed and came to a stop, blocking both lanes of U.S. 221.
Emergency responders pronounced the Lafayette County man dead at the scene. His next of kin has been notified. The Missouri driver was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.
FHP confirmed that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured driver.
Truck Accidents in Florida
Florida’s highways, including U.S. 221, see frequent semi-truck collisions due to high-speed travel, long-haul driver fatigue, and unexpected roadway hazards. Head-on truck crashes, like this one, often result in severe or fatal injuries due to the sheer force of impact.
The state reports hundreds of fatal truck accidents each year, with many incidents linked to lane departures, mechanical failures, and driver inattention. Large commercial vehicles require longer stopping distances, and any sudden lane change or loss of control can have catastrophic consequences.
Victims of truck accidents and their families may face extensive medical expenses, emotional trauma, and financial hardships. Seeking legal guidance and understanding one’s rights can be crucial in the aftermath of such a devastating crash.
