Ponchatoula, LA (January 24, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 22 near Edwards Rd in Tangipahoa Parish claimed the life of 65-year-old Peggy J. Williams of Hammond on the evening of January 22, 2025. Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the scene at approximately 8:10 p.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, Williams was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound on LA Hwy 22 when her vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2011 Ford F-150 traveling westbound. The Ford was driven by Kody A. Lacour of Picayune, Mississippi. Investigators are considering icy road conditions caused by a winter storm as a potential factor in the collision.
Williams sustained critical injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Tragically, authorities confirmed that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Lacour, who was also unrestrained, suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.
During the investigation, Troopers discovered that Lacour was impaired. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on charges of First Offense DWI and Obstruction of a Court Order. The crash remains under investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Peggy J. Williams as they cope with this heartbreaking loss.
