Tallahassee, FL (March 8, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near the Centerville Road overpass resulted in serious injuries to a motorcyclist and caused significant traffic delays on Friday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident began when a 52-year-old motorcyclist from Mississippi, traveling eastbound in the left lane, lost control for unknown reasons. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle, which came to a final stop in the center grassy median.
Following the motorcycle crash, a pickup truck stopped in the roadway to avoid the wreckage, causing another truck behind it to slow down. However, the driver of an SUV failed to notice the slowing traffic, leading to a secondary collision involving the two trucks. Authorities confirmed that no one in the secondary crash sustained injuries.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the injured motorcyclist to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash led to a significant backup on I-10 between Capital Circle NE and the Mahan Rd exit. As of 5:15 p.m., eastbound traffic slowly began to clear.
Motorcycle Crash Risks on Florida Highways
Motorcycle accidents on Florida highways are often caused by sudden lane shifts, road hazards, and high-speed traffic conditions. Riders are particularly vulnerable, as even minor loss of control can result in severe injuries.
To help prevent motorcycle crashes and secondary collisions, drivers are encouraged to:
- Stay alert and be aware of motorcycles on the road
- Maintain a safe following distance, especially at highway speeds
- Check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes
- Reduce speed in heavy traffic to avoid sudden braking situations
