Sugar Creek Township, OH (November 13, 2024) – A tragic crash on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a passenger and left the driver with serious injuries after a pickup truck rear-ended a parked semi on US-30 near Kohler Road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) reported the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m.
Authorities stated that the semi-truck had stopped to make a left turn onto Kohler Road when it was struck from behind by an eastbound pickup truck. The passenger in the pickup, 41-year-old Adam Sartin of Orrville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 45-year-old Massillon man, sustained incapacitating injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was airlifted to Akron General Hospital for treatment.
Troopers noted that neither the driver nor the passenger of the pickup truck was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Adam Sartin. We also extend our wishes for a full recovery to the injured driver.
Rear-End Collisions in Ohio
Rear-end collisions involving parked or stopped vehicles, such as this one on US-30, can result in catastrophic injuries or fatalities, especially at highway speeds. Failure to wear seatbelts increases the likelihood of severe injuries in such incidents.
These crashes often arise from distracted driving, speeding, or failure to maintain safe distances. Victims and their families may face significant medical costs, emotional trauma, and financial burdens in the aftermath.
Drivers are reminded to wear seatbelts, remain attentive, and reduce speed when approaching stopped or turning vehicles. Public safety campaigns and seatbelt enforcement continue to be essential in reducing fatalities on Ohio’s roadways.
If you or someone you know has been involved in a serious collision, seeking legal and professional guidance is vital for understanding your options and navigating recovery.
