Sugar Creek, MO (December 23, 2024) – A devastating house fire in Sugar Creek early Sunday morning left one civilian critically injured and four firefighters hurt, three of whom required hospitalization for burn injuries. The fire broke out around 7:30 AM near the intersection of S. Forest St. and Henry Ave.
Firefighters responded quickly to reports of the fire and learned en route that multiple individuals were potentially trapped inside the home. Upon arrival, crews found that one individual had managed to escape, but another was still trapped in a bedroom. Additional support from the Independence Fire Department was called in to assist with the complex rescue operation and firefighting efforts.
Emergency crews successfully rescued the trapped individual, who was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The intense rescue efforts resulted in injuries to four firefighters. Three were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of burns, while a fourth sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
