Suffolk County, NY (December 9, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Suffolk County when 64-year-old Kenneth Stewart, driving under the influence, struck and killed 69-year-old Angela Sarant while she was crossing the street. The incident took place around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Vanderbilt Parkway and Village Hill Dr in Dix Hills, approximately 30 miles east of Central Park. Stewart, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving while ability impaired. He was found behind the wheel of a 2021 Honda Civic and was later scheduled for arraignment in Central Islip on Monday.
Emergency responders from Suffolk County arrived quickly at the scene. Sarant was rushed to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was tragically pronounced dead. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and additional charges against Stewart may be forthcoming.
