Streetsboro, OH (January 9, 2025) – A heartbreaking accident claimed the life of Streetsboro police K-9 Kaya on Tuesday evening after the dog was struck by a vehicle on State Route 303.
The incident occurred around 5:35 PM when Kaya and his handler exited their cruiser to stretch their legs. According to Streetsboro police, Kaya wandered too close to the roadway and was struck by a passing car. The officer immediately transported Kaya to a nearby veterinarian, but the K-9 succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
Police addressed misinformation circulating on social media, which suggested the incident was intentional, confirming there is no evidence to support those claims. They described the tragedy as a “heartbreaking and horrific accident.” The driver involved returned to the scene and cooperated fully with authorities.
Kaya, a valued member of the Streetsboro Police Department, was just three days away from celebrating his ninth birthday. Our thoughts are with the Streetsboro Police Department and Kaya’s handler during this difficult time.
