Stone County, MO (December 16, 2024) – A rear-end collision involving two vehicles occurred on US 160, approximately three miles north of Branson West, on Sunday morning. The crash happened at around 10:35 a.m. and resulted in injuries and significant vehicle damage.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred as a 2008 Toyota Highlander, driven by a 32-year-old female from Kimberling City, slowed down to make a turn. A 2007 Toyota Camry, driven by a 28-year-old female from Reeds Spring, failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Highlander.

The driver of the Highlander sustained injuries and was transported by EMS to Cox Branson Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Camry was not reported injured. Both vehicles sustained damage, with the Camry sustaining extensive damage and the Highlander moderate damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by local towing services.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine additional contributing factors. Early indications suggest the collision was due to the failure of the following driver to maintain a safe distance while the lead vehicle was slowing to turn.

Rear-End Collisions in Missouri

Rear-end collisions, like the one on US 160 in Stone County, are among the most common types of vehicle accidents. These crashes often result from distractions, speeding, or misjudging the stopping distance required to avoid a collision. Rural roads with varying speeds and frequent turning vehicles can pose additional risks to drivers.

Local emergency responders worked quickly to assist the injured and clear the scene, ensuring that traffic flow was restored. This incident serves as a reminder for drivers to remain vigilant and maintain a safe following distance, particularly on roads with frequent turns or changes in traffic flow.
