Standish, MI (December 17, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision on M-61, just west of Standish, claimed the lives of two drivers and left a 5-year-old child hospitalized with critical injuries on Monday evening. The crash occurred around 5:00 PM when 66-year-old Terri Lamrock of Oscoda, driving west on M-61, attempted to pass another vehicle in foggy conditions about a quarter mile east of Lincoln Road. Lamrock crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle driven by 29-year-old David Grezeszak Jr. of Standish, who was traveling with his 5-year-old child.
Both Lamrock and Grezeszak were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The 5-year-old, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition as of Tuesday morning. Authorities have not yet released further details about the child’s condition, but their injuries remain severe.
The Arenac County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the crash. It is not yet clear whether alcohol, speed, or weather conditions played a role in the incident, though officials have confirmed that dense fog was present at the time of the collision.
Vehicle Collisions in Michigan
Head-on collisions, especially those occurring in poor visibility conditions such as fog, are among the most dangerous types of accidents. This incident highlights the risks that drivers face when navigating Michigan’s highways, particularly in weather conditions that reduce visibility and make it difficult to judge distances and speeds accurately. In this case, Lamrock’s decision to pass another vehicle in foggy conditions, despite the potential dangers, led to the tragic loss of two lives.
Michigan’s law enforcement agencies continue to stress the importance of safe driving practices, particularly during adverse weather conditions. Fog, rain, and snow can reduce visibility significantly, and drivers are encouraged to slow down and remain cautious when traveling in such conditions. The speed and timing of passing maneuvers should also be carefully considered to ensure safety for all road users.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those involved in this heartbreaking incident. Our thoughts are also with the young child who remains in critical condition, and we hope for their swift and full recovery.
