St. Petersburg, FL (October 16, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Tuesday afternoon involving a tow truck and an SUV, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The incident took place just before 5 p.m. in the 1900 block of 5th Avenue S, according to a news release from the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Reports indicate that the tow truck was traveling west on 5th Avenue S when an SUV, driven by 35-year-old Shakesha Desence, was making a left turn onto 5th Avenue S from 20th Avenue S. The two vehicles collided, leading to a devastating outcome.
Shakesha Desence was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her passenger, 72-year-old Dilean Desence, tragically died at the scene. Additionally, Shakesha’s 9-year-old grandson, who was also a passenger in the SUV, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the tow truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
