St. Louis, MO (October 2, 2024) – A significant vehicle crash occurred on Southbound Interstate 270, just north of Interstate 70, at approximately 5:42 p.m. on October 1, 2024. Preliminary reports indicate that two vehicles were involved in the collision: a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. Both vehicles were traveling southbound in lane five when the Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 54-year-old Todd A. Hopkins from St. Peters, was stopped in congested traffic. The Volkswagen Passat, driven by 52-year-old James E. Clark from Wentzville, failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Camaro with the front left of his vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to come to rest, blocking lanes four and five of the interstate.
Both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash. James Clark sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Pattonville Fire Protection District to SSM Health DePaul Hospital for medical care. Todd Hopkins also suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Robertson Fire Protection District to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment.
