St. Louis, MO (January 8, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision occurred late Monday night on the westbound Interstate 44 ramp to MO 141 at approximately 11:41 PM. Emergency responders and towing services were called to the scene to assist.
According to reports, the crash involved a 2020 Chevrolet Spark and a 2020 Honda CRV, both traveling westbound. The Chevrolet Spark, driven by a 52-year-old male from Dittmer, MO, was traveling too fast for the wet and slippery road conditions. The vehicle spun out on the ramp, facing east. The Honda CRV, driven by a 24-year-old male from Cedar Hill, MO, was unable to avoid the Chevrolet and collided head-on with its front.
Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The Chevrolet Spark was driven from the scene, while the Honda CRV was towed by McNamara’s Towing. The driver of the Honda CRV suffered moderate injuries and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by private conveyance for further treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet Spark was not injured.
Trooper J.D. Hedrick of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving too fast for conditions, particularly on ramps and exits in inclement weather. Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish him a full recovery.
Weather-Related Crashes in Missouri
Winter weather conditions, including wet and slippery roadways, significantly increase the likelihood of traffic accidents. Missouri’s highways and ramps, like the I-44 exit to MO 141, are especially hazardous during adverse weather when speed and reduced traction are factors.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) emphasizes the importance of adjusting driving behavior to suit weather conditions. This includes reducing speed, maintaining greater following distances, and being extra cautious on ramps and curves. Proper vehicle maintenance, including ensuring tires are in good condition, is also vital for safe winter driving.
If you or someone you know has been injured in a weather-related crash, seeking assistance can be a crucial step in recovery. Understanding your rights and navigating insurance claims can help manage the aftermath of an accident.
