St. Louis, MO (January 5, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on the westbound lanes of the Blanchette Bridge resulted in significant damage and moderate injuries to a child on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 PM and prompted a response from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and emergency services.

According to the investigation, a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 27-year-old male from St. Charles, MO, veered off the right side of the roadway, colliding with the concrete bridge barrier. The vehicle then re-entered the roadway, crossing into the path of a westbound 2024 Kia Sorrento driven by a 41-year-old female, also from St. Charles, MO. The Malibu struck the front right of the Sorrento, causing the Sorrento to cross all lanes of traffic and collide with the concrete barrier on the opposite side.

A 6-year-old female occupant of the Chevrolet Malibu sustained moderate injuries in the crash. She was transported by St. Charles County Ambulance District to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles for treatment. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene by A1 Towing. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash.

We wish a swift recovery to all the injured parties.

Preventing Multi-Vehicle Collisions on Bridges

Bridges, like the Blanchette Bridge, are frequent sites for serious crashes due to their confined lanes and limited shoulder space. Factors such as driver distraction, speeding, and sudden maneuvers can significantly increase the risk of accidents in these areas.

To improve safety on bridges, drivers should maintain a steady speed, avoid sudden lane changes, and remain attentive to surrounding traffic conditions. Proper use of safety devices, such as seat belts, can also reduce the severity of injuries in the event of a collision.

Accidents, particularly those involving children, can be overwhelming for families. Medical expenses, emotional trauma, and vehicle damages are just a few of the challenges faced in the aftermath of such incidents.
