St. Louis, MO (December 29, 2024) – A late-night crash on Interstate 70 Eastbound near Airflight occurred yesterday at approximately 1:25 AM, involving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu and a stationary 2000 Honda Accord. The incident resulted in significant damage to both vehicles and minor injuries to one individual.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 30-year-old woman from St. Louis, veered off the right side of the roadway and collided with the stationary Honda Accord on the shoulder. After the impact, the Malibu returned to the roadway and overturned. Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Terry’s Towing. The Honda Accord was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders from the Community Fire Protection District transported the Malibu’s driver to SSM Health DePaul Hospital with injuries. The driver was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which likely mitigated the severity of her injuries.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, including why the Honda Accord was stationary on the shoulder and the factors leading to the Malibu leaving its lane. Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish her a speedy recovery.
Car Accidents in Missouri
Missouri highways, especially heavily trafficked interstates like I-70, see frequent vehicle accidents involving a range of circumstances. This particular incident highlights the risks of roadway departures, particularly during late-night hours when visibility and driver alertness may be reduced.
Stationary vehicle collisions, as seen in this case, often occur when disabled or parked vehicles are improperly positioned or when drivers fail to notice hazards in time. All drivers must remain alert and take precautions when traveling on highways. Drivers are encouraged to safely pull as far as possible off the roadway when experiencing vehicle issues to reduce the risk of collisions.
In Missouri, wearing seatbelts significantly reduces the risk of severe injuries in accidents. Reports from the Missouri Department of Transportation emphasize the importance of safety measures, particularly on interstates where speeds are higher.
Those injured in crashes often face challenges navigating medical bills, insurance claims, and vehicle repairs. Victims have the right to pursue compensation and seek accountability for damages caused by negligent actions.
