St. Louis, MO (March 4, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 270, just east of Missouri 367, left two people injured on Monday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 7:28 p.m. when a 19-year-old man from St. Louis, driving a 2014 Toyota Camry, failed to notice a stopped 2020 Ford Explorer in the second lane. The Ford Explorer, driven by a 39-year-old man from St. Louis, had its emergency equipment activated when the Camry struck it from behind. After the initial impact, the Toyota Camry veered off the roadway and collided with a guardrail.

Christian EMS responded to the scene and transported both drivers to medical facilities. The Toyota driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The Ford Explorer driver suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Christian Hospital Northeast.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed by A2B Towing. Authorities are investigating the crash, with initial reports indicating that driver distraction played a role in the incident.

Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Rear-End Collisions and Distracted Driving in Missouri

Rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of crashes, often resulting from distracted driving or failure to maintain a safe following distance. When a vehicle is stopped on a highway—especially with emergency equipment activated—drivers must remain alert and adjust their speed accordingly.

Missouri law emphasizes the importance of keeping a proper lookout for stationary vehicles, particularly on high-speed roadways like I-270. Failing to do so can lead to severe crashes, injuries, and even fatalities.

To prevent rear-end collisions, drivers should remain focused on the road, avoid distractions such as mobile devices, and always maintain a safe following distance. Awareness of stopped vehicles, construction zones, and emergency response activity is crucial to ensuring highway safety.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a rear-end crash, understanding your rights is essential. Seeking medical care, documenting the accident, and consulting with professionals can help guide you through the recovery process.
