St. Louis, MO (March 9, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of St. Charles Rock Road and Airway Avenue left three people injured Saturday afternoon.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a 2017 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on Airway Avenue with emergency lights and sirens activated. Simultaneously, a 2022 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on St. Charles Rock Road, also with emergency lights and sirens activated. At the intersection, both vehicles entered at the same time, leading to a collision.
The impact caused the 2022 Explorer to slide counterclockwise, striking a 2024 Chevrolet Trax that was traveling westbound on St. Charles Rock Road. The Trax veered off the roadway, colliding with a ground wire shield.
Emergency responders from West Land EMS and Community Fire and EMS arrived at the scene to assist the injured. The driver of the 2022 Ford Explorer, a 31-year-old man from Bridgeton, MO, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. A 54-year-old female occupant of the Chevrolet Trax, from St. Louis, MO, also suffered moderate injuries and was taken to SSM Health DePaul Hospital. The driver of the Trax, a 68-year-old woman from Woodson Terrace, MO, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment.
All three vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene by Doc’s Towing. Local authorities, including Breckenridge Hills and Overland police departments, assisted in the investigation.
We extend our thoughts to those injured and hope for their full recovery.
Emergency Vehicle Accidents in Missouri
Accidents involving emergency vehicles can be especially dangerous due to the high speeds and rapid response nature of these situations. When multiple emergency vehicles enter an intersection simultaneously, the risk of a collision increases, particularly if visibility is limited or if other drivers are uncertain about yielding.
In Missouri, state law requires drivers to yield to emergency vehicles displaying lights and sirens. However, when multiple emergency responders converge at an intersection, timing and situational awareness become critical. This accident underscores the importance of clear communication and coordinated response efforts among emergency personnel to prevent such collisions.
Drivers should always exercise extreme caution when approaching intersections, particularly when emergency vehicles are present. Staying alert, slowing down, and ensuring the intersection is clear before proceeding can help reduce the risk of serious accidents.
