St. Louis, MO (February 6, 2025) – Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a severe two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning, leaving multiple individuals with serious injuries. The collision took place around 6:10 a.m. on the southbound Missouri 367 ramp leading to eastbound Interstate 270.
According to officials, a 2024 Kia Carnival was stopped at a flashing yellow arrow in the left lane of the northbound MO-367 ramp. At the same time, a 2020 BMW 228i, traveling southbound on MO-367 with a green light, approached the intersection. The Kia entered the intersection in front of the BMW, causing the front of the BMW to collide with the right side of the Kia. The impact sent the Kia off the right side of the roadway, where it overturned.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by A2B Towing. Emergency crews from Black Jack Fire and EMS and Christian EMS responded quickly to provide medical assistance. The 20-year-old driver of the BMW and his 18-year-old passenger, both from Florissant, MO, suffered serious injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. The 52-year-old Kia driver from Ballwin, MO, sustained moderate injuries and was also transported to the same hospital for treatment.
Authorities from Troop C, including TPR B C Roberts, MSGT D L Bilyeu, TPR E R Sikes, and TPR S C Clair, are actively investigating the crash to determine the exact circumstances that led to this collision. Our thoughts are with all those affected, and we wish the injured parties a full and speedy recovery.
Car Accidents in Missouri
This accident highlights the persistent dangers drivers face on Missouri roads, particularly at intersections involving highway ramps. Intersections with flashing yellow arrows can often be confusing, requiring drivers to exercise extra caution when determining the right-of-way. While flashing yellow arrows indicate that drivers can proceed with caution, they must yield to oncoming traffic that has the right of way—especially when the opposing vehicles have a green light, as seen in this incident.
Missouri has consistently worked on improving traffic safety through public awareness campaigns and roadway design modifications. Despite these efforts, intersections remain common sites for serious collisions. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, intersections account for a significant portion of statewide accidents, often due to misjudgments regarding the speed and distance of oncoming vehicles.
This crash also emphasizes the importance of proper use of safety devices. Thankfully, all occupants involved in this accident were wearing seat belts, which likely reduced the severity of their injuries. However, the force of the collision and the subsequent rollover of one vehicle still resulted in serious harm.
For drivers navigating complex intersections and highway ramps, it’s crucial to remain vigilant and patient. Even with right-of-way, drivers should anticipate unexpected movements from other vehicles and be prepared to react swiftly. Conversely, when facing flashing yellow arrows, it’s essential to thoroughly assess traffic before proceeding.
