St. Louis, MO (February 11, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle collision occurred in the early hours of Monday morning on the eastbound ramp from MO-370 to northbound I-270, resulting in significant injuries. Emergency responders from Robertson Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:30 AM to provide immediate medical assistance.
The incident involved two Nissan Altimas, both of which sustained total damage. A 2020 Nissan Altima, driven by an 18-year-old female from St. Louis, collided with the rear of a stationary 2008 Nissan Altima, driven by a 19-year-old female from Wentzville, MO. According to authorities, Vehicle #2 had been involved in a separate crash and was stationary in the roadway at the time of the second collision.
The driver of Vehicle #1 attempted to steer right to avoid the stopped car but was unable to prevent the collision. The front of her vehicle struck the right rear of the stationary Altima. The 19-year-old driver of the second vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. She was transported by Robertson Fire and EMS to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment. The driver of the first vehicle was not reported to have sustained injuries.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by A2B Towing. Trooper B.C. Roberts, assisted by Trooper R. Oosthuizen, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish her a full and swift recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents and Highway Safety in Missouri
Highway ramps, such as the eastbound MO-370 ramp to northbound I-270, can be particularly dangerous areas for drivers, especially in low-visibility conditions during the early morning hours. In this incident, a vehicle involved in a prior crash remained stationary on the ramp, leading to a secondary collision that resulted in serious injuries. Multi-vehicle accidents like this one often highlight the chain-reaction nature of crashes on busy highways and the critical importance of road awareness and safety protocols.
One of the key safety concerns in this case is the lack of seatbelt use by the injured driver. Missouri law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seatbelts, a measure proven to significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a collision. In high-speed or unexpected crashes, seatbelts are often the most effective line of defense for vehicle occupants.
Another contributing factor in this incident was the visibility challenge posed by the stationary vehicle. Drivers on highways and ramps may struggle to see stopped vehicles in time to react, especially at night or in low-light conditions. Drivers need to ensure their hazard lights are activated if they become stranded or involved in an accident, and for other drivers to maintain heightened awareness in areas where traffic may be disrupted.
Missouri’s transportation authorities continually work to improve highway safety through better signage, lighting, and road design. However, individual driver responsibility remains a crucial component of overall road safety. Understanding the risks associated with highway driving, especially in areas prone to congestion or accidents, can help reduce the likelihood of serious collisions.
For those involved in multi-vehicle accidents, navigating the aftermath can be complex, involving medical care, insurance claims, and potential legal considerations. Access to appropriate resources and support can be critical in ensuring a smooth recovery process.
