St. Louis, MO (February 26, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle crash involving seven vehicles resulted in injuries to four people Tuesday evening on Interstate 270.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 5:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-270 at Theiss Road. Traffic had slowed when a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado failed to stop in time, colliding with a 2017 Ford Transit ahead of it. This triggered a chain reaction, involving multiple vehicles and causing a 2025 Ford E-350 to veer off the road, strike an embankment, and catch fire.
Emergency responders, including Mehlville Fire Protection District and St. Louis County police, arrived to assist the injured. A 25-year-old woman from East St. Louis, the driver of the Ford E-350, sustained injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital South by private conveyance. Three additional people, including a 33-year-old woman from Lake St. Louis, a 54-year-old woman from St. Charles, and a 98-year-old female passenger, were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Several vehicles sustained extensive damage, with the Silverado, Ford E-350, Ford Edge, and Kia Soul requiring towing from the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims, and we wish them a speedy recovery.
Chain-Reaction Crashes in Missouri
Multi-vehicle pileups, such as this one on I-270, often occur when drivers fail to react to slowing traffic in time. These accidents are especially dangerous because they can quickly escalate, involving multiple vehicles and increasing the risk of injuries.
Missouri law requires drivers to maintain a safe following distance and remain alert in congested traffic. Rear-end collisions, like the one that initiated this crash, are often caused by distractions, speeding, or failure to recognize traffic slowdowns. When larger vehicles are involved, such as trucks and vans, the impact can be even more severe, as seen in this crash where one vehicle caught fire after colliding with multiple others.
Victims of chain-reaction crashes often face medical expenses, vehicle repair costs, and lost wages. If you’ve been injured in an accident due to another driver’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses. Consulting with a legal professional can help you understand your rights and options for recovery.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a car accident, it’s important to seek medical care and legal guidance to ensure you receive the support you need.
