St. Louis, MO (November 22, 2024) – A three-vehicle collision occurred Thursday morning on westbound I-70, just east of North 5th St, leaving one driver injured and causing significant traffic disruption. The crash took place at approximately 8:48 AM.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident began when the front right corner of a 2006 International Harvester collided with the left side of a 2015 Toyota Prius. The initial impact caused the Prius to rotate counter-clockwise and slide into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer in another lane. A subsequent collision occurred when the front center of the Trailblazer struck the right side of the Prius. Following these impacts, the Prius veered off the roadway, ultimately striking a concrete traffic barrier.
Emergency responders, including the St. Charles Fire Department, provided immediate assistance at the scene. The 75-year-old male driver of the Prius, from O’Fallon, MO, sustained injuries and was transported to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles for further care. Both the Trailblazer and Prius sustained extensive and total damage, respectively, and were towed by A1 Towing. The International Harvester, with minor damage, was able to be driven from the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, assisted by additional officers, continues to investigate the crash. No other injuries were reported.
