St. Louis, MO (February 17, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision occurred late Sunday morning on Interstate 70, just west of Lucas and Hunt Road. The crash, which involved four vehicles, was reported at approximately 11:40 a.m. and resulted in multiple injuries.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, three of the vehicles had come to a stop due to a separate crash ahead. A 58-year-old driver from Ellisville, operating a 1999 Toyota 4Runner, attempted to brake but slid on the wet roadway. His vehicle struck a 2019 Ram 1500, which in turn hit a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, causing the Cherokee to collide with a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu.
Emergency responders from the Pattonville Fire Protection District provided assistance at the scene. Four individuals sustained injuries and were transported to Barnes Jewish Hospital for treatment. The injured included a 1-year-old girl, a 30-year-old woman, and a 33-year-old man—all occupants of the Jeep Cherokee—who suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner sustained moderate injuries.
The Toyota 4Runner and the Ram 1500 were totaled, while the Jeep Cherokee sustained extensive damage. The Chevrolet Malibu had moderate damage but was able to be driven from the scene. Terry’s Towing removed the severely damaged vehicles.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash and have cited wet road conditions as a contributing factor.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident, and we wish them a speedy recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Missouri
Pile-up crashes, such as the one on I-70, often occur in heavy traffic when drivers have limited stopping distance. Wet or slippery road conditions can further increase the risk of chain-reaction crashes, as vehicles struggle to stop in time to avoid collisions.
Missouri’s no-fault insurance laws ensure that injured individuals can receive medical coverage regardless of fault. However, when multiple vehicles are involved, determining liability can be complex, particularly if weather conditions play a role. Drivers who suffer injuries in such accidents may need to pursue legal options to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and vehicle damage.
