St. Louis, MO (September 29, 2024) – A multi-vehicle accident occurred on September 28, 2024, at approximately 1:15 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 70, just east of Route U. The incident prompted a response from law enforcement and emergency services due to the extensive damage and injuries involved.
According to the investigation conducted by CPL. J. Brown, three vehicles were involved in the crash: a 2015 Nissan Altima, a 2021 Nissan Versa, and a 2007 GMC Sierra. Vehicle 1, the Nissan Altima, was traveling in lane 3, with Vehicle 2, the Nissan Versa, closely following behind in the same lane. Vehicle 3, the GMC Sierra, was in lane 1.
Reports indicate that the driver of the Nissan Versa, 23-year-old Nailah N. Austin, attempted to avoid a collision with the Altima and swerved left. However, the front right of the Versa struck the rear left of the Altima. This impact caused the Altima to rotate and travel off the right side of the roadway, where it struck the guardrail. Following this, the Versa began to rotate and entered the path of the GMC Sierra, resulting in a front-end collision between the two vehicles.
Nailah N. Austin sustained moderate injuries and was transported by the Northeast Fire Protection District to Barnes Jewish Hospital for medical care. The driver of the Nissan Altima, 28-year-old Caycee J. Woods, suffered minor injuries and was taken to SSM Health DePaul Hospital by Abbott EMS. The driver of the GMC Sierra, 53-year-old Cheryl Defrance, was reported to have used a safety device and did not sustain injuries.
Our thoughts are with those involved in this accident, and we hope for a swift recovery for all affected.
