St. Louis, MO (December 9, 2024) – A multi-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 1:09 p.m. on the ramp from northbound 170 to eastbound Interstate 270 in St. Louis. The crash involved a 2005 Dodge Dakota and a 2015 Nissan Quest, with both vehicles sustaining significant damage.
According to preliminary reports, the 22-year-old male driver of the Dodge Dakota, a resident of St. Louis, attempted to change lanes from lane two to lane one on the ramp. As he did, the rear right quarter panel of his vehicle struck the front right quarter panel of the 18-year-old male driver’s Nissan Quest, which was traveling in lane one. The impact caused the Dodge Dakota to slide, and it eventually went off the left side of the roadway, striking the concrete median barrier.
The driver and a 21-year-old female passenger in the Dodge Dakota were both transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with moderate injuries. Neither occupant of the Dodge Dakota was wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. The Nissan Quest, which sustained moderate damage, was driven from the scene by the male driver, who was wearing his seatbelt.
The incident prompted a quick response from local emergency services, including the Hazelwood Police Department, Hazelwood Fire Department, and Christian Hospital Emergency Medical Services, who assisted at the scene. Both vehicles were involved in the crash while traveling on the ramp, and no further vehicles were reported to be involved.
Car Accidents in Missouri
Missouri’s busy highways and ramps, especially near intersections like the one on I-270, can be prone to accidents when drivers fail to exercise caution during lane changes or overtaking maneuvers. In this case, the failure to yield properly while changing lanes contributed to the severity of the crash.
Authorities in Missouri emphasize the importance of proper lane discipline, signaling, and checking blind spots before making lane changes, particularly in high-traffic areas like ramps and on-ramps. In addition, the use of seat belts remains crucial in reducing injury severity during collisions, as demonstrated by the driver of the Nissan Quest, who was unharmed thanks to his safety device.
For individuals involved in accidents, seeking immediate medical attention and ensuring the scene is documented properly can help with recovery and facilitate any insurance claims. Working with experienced legal professionals can also assist in navigating the aftermath of a crash.
