St. Louis, MO (January 17, 2025) – A major multi-vehicle crash involving five vehicles occurred on Eastbound Interstate 70 near Jennings Station Rd, resulting in multiple injuries, including those of two children.

The incident took place at approximately 12:50 PM. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash began when a 2012 Mack CXU tractor-trailer traveling eastbound failed to stop in time for congested traffic ahead. The driver swerved left in an attempt to avoid a collision but struck the rear of a 2021 Freightliner MT45. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to hit the rear of a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox and the left side of a 2014 Cadillac Escalade. The collision also involved a 2023 Toyota Camry, which sustained total damage.

Emergency responders from Northeast Fire and EMS and Abbott EMS provided immediate care to the injured. Seven individuals sustained injuries in the crash. The 21-year-old driver of the Mack CXU from Curryville, MO, was transported to St. Louis University Hospital. Occupants of the Toyota Camry, including a 6-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, and two adults from Granite City, IL, were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Drivers of the Chevrolet Equinox and the Freightliner MT45, along with the driver of the Cadillac Escalade, also received medical attention at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

All damaged vehicles were towed from the scene, with Petroff Towing and A2B Towing assisting in the recovery process. Authorities, including multiple assisting officers and North County Police Cooperative personnel, continue investigating the incident. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this collision, and we hope for a speedy recovery for the injured.

Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Missouri

Multi-vehicle accidents, particularly on interstates like I-70, often result in significant damage and injuries due to high speeds and traffic congestion. These crashes frequently occur when drivers fail to maintain a safe following distance or react late to sudden changes in traffic conditions.

The Missouri Department of Transportation advises drivers to practice defensive driving techniques, such as maintaining proper lookouts, observing speed limits, and staying alert to traffic patterns. These actions can help reduce the risk of chain-reaction collisions.

The aftermath of such accidents is often complex, involving multiple insurance claims, medical expenses, and potential legal challenges. Seeking professional advice is crucial for those affected to navigate these challenges effectively.
