St. Louis, MO (February 7, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Tesson Ferry Rd resulted in one fatality and left another individual seriously injured on Thursday afternoon. The crash occurred at approximately 1:46 PM, just south of Walden Ridge Dr, prompting an immediate response from local emergency services.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident involved a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1998 GMC 400. The Silverado, driven by a 30-year-old man from Farmington, was traveling southbound when it crossed the centerline of the roadway, colliding head-on with the northbound GMC 400, driven by a 57-year-old man from Barnhart.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Miners Towing. Emergency responders from Mehlville EMS arrived quickly, providing life-saving measures at the scene. The driver of the Silverado was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to Mercy Hospital South with serious injuries. Tragically, the driver of the GMC 400 was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Barnes Jewish Hospital. He was pronounced deceased at 4:10 PM by Dr. N. Welko.
The St. Louis County Police and additional troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation, which remains ongoing. Authorities are examining factors that may have contributed to the Silverado crossing the centerline.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased, and we wish the injured driver a full recovery.
Head-On Collisions in Missouri
Thursday’s devastating crash on Tesson Ferry Rd highlights the deadly consequences of head-on collisions, which are among the most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents. In Missouri, these types of crashes often result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the combined impact forces when vehicles collide from opposite directions.
One of the primary causes of head-on collisions is the unintentional crossing of the centerline, which can be triggered by a range of factors including driver distraction, fatigue, medical emergencies, or adverse road conditions. In this case, the cause remains under investigation, but the outcome serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining full attention while driving.
Seatbelt use also plays a critical role in the survivability of such accidents. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, who was wearing his seatbelt, survived with serious injuries, while the driver of the GMC 400, who was not restrained, tragically lost his life. Missouri law requires seatbelt use for all drivers and front-seat passengers, and compliance significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries in the event of a crash.
Head-on collisions are particularly prevalent on rural roads and highways where traffic flows in opposite directions with minimal separation. St. Louis County has seen its share of such tragic accidents, underscoring the need for increased awareness and defensive driving techniques.
For those affected by serious crashes, immediate medical attention is paramount, followed by legal and emotional support to navigate the aftermath.
