St. Johns County, FL (March 4, 2025) – A tragic accident on Interstate 95 North claimed the life of a 40-year-old Orlando man Monday night after he was ejected from an SUV and struck by another vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 10:15 p.m. when a northbound SUV carrying six adult passengers lost control in the left lane. The driver, a 57-year-old Orlando man, spun out, causing the vehicle to crash into a guardrail and overturn onto its roof.
During the collision, one of the back seat passengers, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle onto the highway. A passing pickup truck then struck him, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The SUV’s driver and the five remaining passengers sustained minor injuries. Authorities noted that only one of the passengers had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the pickup truck and her two passengers were unharmed, with all three properly restrained.
Following the accident, I-95 was closed in both directions for several hours before reopening early Tuesday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts go out to the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time.
Rollover Accidents in Florida
Rollover crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities. In Florida, high-speed roadways like I-95 see frequent rollover collisions due to driver error, road conditions, and the unpredictability of traffic.
A significant factor in the severity of injuries during rollovers is seat belt use. Studies show that passengers ejected from vehicles face a much higher risk of fatal injuries. Florida law requires all occupants to wear seat belts, yet non-compliance remains a major safety concern.
In multi-passenger vehicle crashes, improper restraint use can lead to devastating consequences, as seen in this incident. Survivors may face costly medical bills, emotional trauma, and long-term recovery challenges.
Victims and their families should be aware of their legal rights following a serious accident. Seeking professional guidance can help them navigate medical expenses, insurance claims, and potential compensation for damages.
