St. James Parish, LA (December 11, 2024) – A pedestrian was killed in a crash on Louisiana Highway 70 just west of the Sunshine Bridge in St. James Parish early on the morning of December 10, 2024. The crash occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. and involved a 2014 GMC Sierra and 63-year-old Randolph McKinley of Convent, who was walking across the highway.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop C, the preliminary investigation revealed that the GMC Sierra was traveling east on LA Hwy 70 when McKinley, walking north, crossed the eastbound lanes of traffic. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC struck McKinley. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the GMC was properly restrained and not injured. They were not suspected of being impaired, and a breath sample taken voluntarily by the driver showed no alcohol present. A standard toxicology sample was collected from McKinley and submitted for analysis.
