St. Francois, MO (December 29, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision occurred yesterday on US-67 at Cash Ln in St. Francois County at approximately 2:52 PM, resulting in property damage and minor injuries.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident began when the left rear tire of a towed unit attached to a 2010 Ford F150, driven by a 79-year-old man from Collinsville, Illinois, detached. The tire traveled into the southbound lanes, where it struck the front of a 2020 Kia Sportage. The impact caused the Kia to veer off the right side of the roadway, colliding with a building.

The Kia Sportage, driven by a 31-year-old woman from Park Hills, sustained total damage and was removed by Marler’s Towing. The Ford F150, which did not sustain any damage, was driven from the scene. The driver of the Kia suffered injuries and was transported to Parkland Hospital in Farmington via personal conveyance. Both drivers were reported to have been wearing seatbelts.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities examine the cause of the mechanical failure. Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we wish her a swift recovery.

Vehicle Accidents Involving Mechanical Failures in Missouri

Mechanical failures, such as detached tires, can result in serious accidents on Missouri roadways. These types of incidents highlight the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and inspection, particularly for vehicles towing additional loads. Improperly secured or worn components can pose significant hazards to other road users.

Missouri highways like US-67 are major thoroughfares where vehicle failures can quickly escalate into dangerous situations. Ensuring that vehicles, especially those towing equipment, meet safety standards can prevent incidents like this one. Drivers are encouraged to routinely check the condition of tires, brakes, and other critical components.

Victims of accidents involving mechanical failures may face unique challenges when seeking compensation, as determining liability can involve both vehicle owners and maintenance providers. Understanding legal rights and options can help victims navigate the process of recovering damages for injuries, property loss, and related expenses.
