St. Charles, MO (January 31, 2025) – Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 64 near Highway DD on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:07 p.m. when the front of a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu struck the rear of a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. The impact caused moderate to total damage to both vehicles, requiring them to be towed from the scene by Superior Towing.

A 35-year-old female driver from Lake St. Louis, operating the 2015 Malibu, sustained moderate injuries. A 15-year-old male passenger in her vehicle suffered injuries. Both were transported by the St. Charles County Ambulance District to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis for treatment.

The driver of the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, a 26-year-old female from Wentzville, sustained minor injuries. She was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for medical evaluation. Reports indicate that none of the drivers were using safety restraints at the time of the crash, while the juvenile passenger was properly secured.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident. Drivers in the area were urged to use caution as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

Our thoughts are with those injured, and we hope for their full recovery.

Rear-End Collisions in Missouri

Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of vehicle crashes, often resulting in significant injuries and vehicle damage. In Missouri, heavy traffic conditions on major highways like Interstate 64 contribute to these types of accidents, especially when drivers fail to maintain safe following distances.

Distracted driving, sudden braking, and failure to account for changing road conditions are leading factors in rear-end crashes. In some cases, the severity of injuries can be exacerbated when occupants are not wearing seat belts. While Missouri law requires seat belt use, compliance remains a critical safety concern.

Injury victims of rear-end accidents may face medical expenses, rehabilitation needs, and financial hardships due to lost wages. Seeking immediate medical attention and understanding legal options can help affected individuals recover physically and financially.
