St. Augustine, FL (October 16, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Wednesday morning on State Road 207 (SR-207) in St. Johns County, resulting in the death of a 61-year-old man from Elkton. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident took place at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Elkton man was traveling northbound in the left lane of SR-207, just south of Cypress Links Boulevard. At the same time, a pickup truck was stopped in the right turn lane of Cypress Links Boulevard. As the SUV driver attempted to maneuver, he crossed over the left lane of SR-207 and entered the northbound lanes of Cypress Links Boulevard.
The collision occurred when the SUV struck the left side of the pickup truck. Following the impact, the SUV continued traveling north on the east shoulder of SR-207 before coming to a stop facing northeast. The pickup truck also veered onto the east shoulder of SR-207, ultimately coming to rest facing south.
FHP reports that the driver of the pickup truck, also a 61-year-old man from Elkton, sustained minor injuries in the crash. The identities of both drivers have not been released at this time.
