Springfield, MO (October 5, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred Thursday night, October 4 when an eight-year-old girl lost her life in an ATV crash. The accident took place at approximately 11:19 PM at the intersection of Jean Street and Missouri Avenue, located north of Kearney Street near Kansas Expressway.
According to Springfield police, the girl, identified as Je’Bryia Heard, was riding on a four-wheeler driven by her father when the vehicle crashed into a utility pole. Following the collision, family members transported Je’Bryia to a local hospital, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Her father is currently recovering in the hospital. Authorities confirmed that he was not impaired at the time of the accident and had purchased the four-wheeler just hours before the incident.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing a significant police presence following the crash. Neighbors Kathy and Mike shared their observations, noting that they saw several police officers and an ambulance responding to the scene. “I looked out the door, and I saw about four or five cops sitting down there at the corner,” Kathy recounted. The couple mentioned that police remained in the neighborhood until after 1 AM, searching the area with flashlights.
