Spokane Valley, WA (February 15, 2025) – Yesterday a tragic accident on westbound I-90 near the Evergreen interchange claimed the life of a man who was trying to assist stranded drivers following a crash.
According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the victim, identified as 26-year-old Nigel Sherman, had stopped on the left shoulder of I-90 to help another driver. As he was assisting, another vehicle traveling westbound struck the rear of his parked car, pushing it forward and hitting him.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported Sherman to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash was reportedly under the influence at the time and was also taken to the hospital with injuries. WSP stated that charges may be filed against that driver.
The initial impact set off a chain reaction when another car crashed into the vehicle that hit Sherman’s. As a result, westbound I-90 was shut down for over three hours while authorities investigated and cleared the scene. Other drivers involved in the incident were not injured.
Our thoughts are with Sherman’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Fatal Accidents on Washington Highways
Highways such as I-90 in Washington often experience severe accidents due to high speeds, poor road conditions, and impaired driving. Sadly, Good Samaritans who stop to help others in distress may also face serious dangers, especially on major freeways with high traffic volumes.
According to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, accidents involving impaired drivers remain a major concern, contributing to a significant percentage of highway fatalities each year. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, avoid distractions, and never operate a vehicle under the influence to prevent such tragedies.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a serious crash, understanding your legal options and seeking justice is crucial.
