Roadway Dangers on I-85 in North Carolina
Interstate 85 is one of North Carolina’s busiest highways, frequently traveled by both commuters and commercial trucks. Crashes involving emergency vehicles, such as this incident in Rowan County, highlight the risks associated with highway responses to accidents and fires.
Fire trucks and other emergency response vehicles are often stationed on highways to assist with fires, collisions, or roadside emergencies. Unfortunately, distracted driving, speeding, or failing to yield to emergency crews can lead to secondary crashes, putting first responders and other motorists at risk.
North Carolina law requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the roadway. Despite these regulations, many crashes still occur due to driver inattention or reckless driving.
