Spencer, IA (February 8, 2025) – Two individuals were tragically killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred north of Spencer, Iowa, on the afternoon of Friday, February 7. The Iowa State Patrol reported that at 12:47 p.m., a pickup truck driven by 70-year-old Randall Dykstra from Everly was traveling northbound on Highway 71, approximately half a mile north of Spencer. At the same time, a second vehicle, driven by 45-year-old Bridget Baird from Milford, was traveling south in the northbound lane. The vehicles collided in the northbound lane, resulting in fatal injuries to both drivers.
Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims, but both drivers were pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The authorities closed Highway 71 for nearly four hours to allow for investigation and cleanup. As of now, the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
