Spartanburg County, SC (November 19, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision on Highway 417 near Chicken Foot Creek Rd claimed the lives of two drivers and left two passengers injured Monday afternoon.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m., about six miles north of Woodruff. Investigators report that a 2008 Kia Sportage traveling south crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2008 Buick Lucerne head-on.
The driver of the Kia, identified as 67-year-old Eddie Bellew, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Buick, Charles Litke, 92, of Woodruff, succumbed to his injuries later that evening at Spartanburg Regional Hospital, according to the coroner’s office.
Passengers in both vehicles sustained injuries and were transported by emergency medical services to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed at this time.
