Sparta Twp., PA (January 17, 2025) – A two-car crash involving an ambulance at the intersection of State Highways 89 and 77 sent four people to the hospital on Friday evening. The incident occurred around 7 p.m., according to reports from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) in Corry.

Authorities stated that the crash happened when an ambulance traveling on Highway 77 failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a pickup truck traveling on Highway 89 as it entered the intersection. Emergency responders, including the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department, EmergyCare, and the Bloomfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, quickly arrived to assist at the scene.

The ambulance driver, a second crew member, and a patient being transported in the ambulance all suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Corry Memorial Hospital. The driver of the pickup truck, who initially refused medical transport, was later taken to the same hospital via a private vehicle. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by PSP Corry. Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident.

Emergency Vehicle Accidents in Pennsylvania

Accidents involving emergency vehicles, like this one in Sparta Township, highlight the risks associated with high-stakes situations on Pennsylvania roads. Although ambulances and other emergency vehicles often operate under unique circumstances, adherence to traffic laws is essential to prevent collisions and ensure public safety.

Intersections, such as the one at Highways 89 and 77, are particularly prone to accidents due to high traffic volume and potential visibility issues. When drivers fail to yield or stop, severe collisions can occur, resulting in significant injuries for all parties involved.

Victims of emergency vehicle accidents may face complex medical, legal, and financial challenges. It is crucial for those injured to seek immediate medical attention and understand their legal rights, including potential compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and other damages.
