Skowhegan, ME (November 1, 2024) – A tragic house fire on Waterville Rd in Skowhegan on Thursday afternoon claimed the life of one individual who suffered severe burns in the incident. The Maine Department of Public Safety reported that the fire broke out around 3 p.m., leading to a critical situation that ultimately turned fatal.
According to Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss, one person managed to escape the burning home but sustained severe burn injuries. The individual was initially rushed to Reddington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan in critical condition. Given the extent of their injuries, they were later airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland for specialized treatment. Sadly, despite efforts by medical personnel, the individual succumbed to their injuries early Friday morning.
The state fire marshal’s office (FMO) has taken over the investigation to determine the cause of the fire. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is also involved, working to confirm the victim’s identity through autopsy and DNA testing. Authorities have not yet disclosed any further information regarding the potential causes of the fire, and the investigation remains active.
