Sioux Falls, SD (November 19, 2024) – Emergency responders were dispatched to a serious car versus pedestrian crash at the intersection of W. 41st St and S. Sertoma Ave at approximately 8:11 AM on Tuesday.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found that a collision between a red Toyota Rav 4 SUV and a Subaru Crosstrek had caused significant damage, ultimately resulting in a pedestrian being struck at the southeast corner of the intersection. According to officials, the Toyota was traveling eastbound on W. 41st St, occupied by three juveniles, while the Subaru was traveling westbound before attempting to turn south onto Sertoma Ave. The vehicles collided in the intersection and came to rest on the corner where the pedestrian was located.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries in the crash, requiring immediate medical attention. Additionally, a passenger in the Toyota suffered serious injuries, while other vehicle occupants and both drivers were treated for minor injuries. All injured parties were transported to a local hospital by Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue and other emergency crews.
Authorities have not confirmed whether seatbelts were in use or whether speed or impairment contributed to the crash.
