Sidney Twp, MI (February 26, 2025) – A driver was hospitalized, and another fled the scene following a head-on crash Tuesday night in Sidney Township, according to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred just after 7:45 p.m. on Derby Road near Holland Lake Road. Authorities reported that a Kia Sportage was traveling north while a Chevy Silverado was heading south. The Chevy crossed the center line, forcing the Kia’s driver to swerve left in an attempt to avoid a collision. However, the vehicles ultimately crashed in the southbound lane.
The Kia’s driver, a 23-year-old man from New York, suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Silverado, a 45-year-old man from Sidney, fled the scene before deputies arrived. Authorities were unable to locate him Tuesday night, but the suspect turned himself in at the sheriff’s office on Wednesday morning and is now cooperating with the investigation.
Derby Road was closed for more than two hours as crews worked to clear the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we hope for a full recovery.
