Sheldon, VT (January 2, 2024) – A vehicle crash on E. Sheldon Rd resulted in a Richford woman being cited for a hit-and-run and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. The incident occurred on December 29 at approximately 8:16 p.m.
Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks were dispatched following reports of a vehicle crashing into residential property and fleeing the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt with visible front-end damage. Investigators determined that the driver, identified as Brittney Myres, 37, had left the scene without notifying the property owner.
Further investigation revealed that Myres was driving while her Vermont license was under criminal suspension. Authorities also noted that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and had sustained minor injuries. Myres was located shortly after the incident and issued a criminal citation.
She is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Superior Court – Criminal Division on February 3 at 10 a.m. to face charges related to the hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license.
Hit-and-Run Incidents in Vermont
Hit-and-run accidents pose a significant safety risk to communities and often result in criminal charges for those involved. Vermont, like many states, has strict laws requiring drivers to remain at the scene of any accident involving property damage, injuries, or fatalities. Fleeing the scene can lead to additional legal consequences, including criminal charges and penalties.
In cases like this, where the driver was also operating a vehicle with a suspended license, the potential repercussions become even more severe. Vermont law mandates that individuals with suspended licenses refrain from driving until their privileges are reinstated. Failure to comply can lead to further legal action, including fines, additional license suspensions, or even imprisonment.
This incident highlights the importance of responsible driving and adherence to state traffic laws. Beyond the legal implications, hit-and-run accidents can leave victims and property owners feeling vulnerable and burdened by unexpected repair costs or medical expenses.
If you or someone you know has been affected by a hit-and-run or similar incident, it’s vital to seek assistance. Contacting local authorities or legal professionals can help ensure your rights are protected, and the responsible parties are held accountable.
