According to the Sheldon Police Department, the incident took place around 2:00 p.m. at the intersection near the vet clinic and high school corner on Highway 18.
The report indicates that 70-year-old Sarah Schnell of Terril was driving a 2014 Dodge minivan westbound on Highway 18 when she was rear-ended by another vehicle. The second vehicle, a 2015 Nissan SUV, was driven by 70-year-old Mary Ruyter of Sheldon, who was also traveling westbound.
Authorities stated that Ruyter was following closely behind Schnell’s minivan when the collision occurred. Emergency responders from SCAT arrived at the scene and transported Schnell, Ruyter, and another passenger, 68-year-old Joyce Johnson of Sioux Rapids, to Sanford Sheldon Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
