Sewickley Twp., PA (February 26, 2025) – A tragic collision in Sewickley Township, Westmoreland County, claimed the life of one driver and left another injured on Tuesday afternoon, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The crash occurred just after 4:00 p.m. on Clay Pike near Orchard Drive when a pickup truck crossed the centerline and collided with a car driven by 71-year-old Dean Carlson of Hunker. Carlson was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson. The cause and manner of death are pending autopsy and toxicology results.
The pickup truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to police reports.
Aerial footage from Sky 4, Pittsburgh’s news chopper, showed both vehicles with major damage, and a section of the road was blocked off as authorities conducted their investigation.
The Pennsylvania State Police are actively investigating the crash to determine the factors that led to the fatal collision.
