Seminary, MS (February 22, 2025) – One person sustained injuries following a crash involving two semi-trucks on Highway 49 Friday morning, according to local authorities.
Emergency responders, including the Seminary Volunteer Fire Department, arrived at the scene and extricated one individual from a vehicle. The victim was transported to a hospital and is reported to be in fair condition.
Authorities confirmed that the two semi-trucks did not collide with each other. Instead, one truck struck a power pole, knocking down electrical lines, while the second truck, traveling from the opposite direction, pulled down additional lines. The driver of the second truck did not report any injuries.
Due to the downed power lines and debris, northbound traffic on Highway 49 was diverted onto the southbound lanes, temporarily converting the roadway into a two-lane highway to allow for emergency operations and cleanup.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we wish them a full recovery.
Truck Accidents in Mississippi
Highway 49 is a major corridor for commercial truck traffic, and accidents involving large vehicles can have severe consequences. Incidents like this highlight the potential dangers of roadway hazards, driver miscalculations, and infrastructure impacts that contribute to trucking collisions.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), common causes of truck accidents include:
- Driver fatigue and long hours on the road
- Mechanical failures or brake malfunctions
- Poor road conditions or infrastructure issues
- Load shifts or improper cargo distribution
When semi-trucks are involved in crashes, the size and weight of the vehicles often lead to serious injuries, traffic disruptions, and extensive property damage. In cases where power lines are involved, the risk of electrical hazards further complicates rescue efforts and road clearance.
Victims of truck accidents may face significant medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and insurance challenges. Understanding legal rights and compensation options is crucial for those affected by serious trucking collisions.
