Sebring, FL (February 8, 2025) – Two teenagers were tragically killed Friday night after being ejected from their vehicle during a crash on US-27 in Highlands County. The Florida Highway Patrol reported the incident, which occurred just before 10:00 PM near Lake Josephine Dr.
An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, both from Lake Placid, were traveling southbound on US-27 in a pickup truck when another vehicle, driven by a 17-year-old boy, also headed south with three passengers—a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old girl, and another 17-year-old boy—collided with their truck. The 17-year-old driver attempted to change lanes, resulting in the crash.
The collision caused the pickup truck to veer off the road into a grassy median, where it flipped multiple times. Unfortunately, the teens were not wearing their seatbelts, and both were ejected from the truck. They were transported to nearby hospitals with critical injuries but were later pronounced dead.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Our condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those affected by this devastating tragedy.

Highlands County, like many regions in Florida, experiences frequent accidents, and those involving teenagers highlight the importance of education and awareness on road safety.
This crash underscores the dangers of speeding, lane changes, and the lack of seatbelt usage, all of which contribute to the severity of collisions. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident, and drivers are urged to remain vigilant while on the roads.
