Scottsdale, AZ (February 11, 2025) – A tragic aircraft collision at Scottsdale Airport claimed one life and left several others injured on Monday afternoon. Authorities reported that a private jet, owned by Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil, veered off the runway during landing and collided with a parked Gulfstream 200 jet.
The incident occurred as Neil’s jet, arriving from Austin, Texas, attempted to land but suffered a failure in its left main landing gear, according to Kelli Kuester, aviation planning and outreach coordinator at Scottsdale Airport. The malfunction caused the jet to veer off course and strike the parked aircraft on private property.
There were two pilots and two passengers aboard Neil’s jet at the time of the accident, though Neil was not among them. The parked plane had one individual inside at the time of the collision. Tragically, one person was killed in the crash, and recovery efforts for the body were underway as of Monday evening, according to Scottsdale Fire Department Capt. Dave Folio.
Two additional individuals sustained injuries in the crash. They were transported to nearby trauma centers, with one reported in stable condition. The identities of those involved have not yet been released.
In response to the incident, the runway at Scottsdale Airport has been closed indefinitely while investigations proceed. Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky expressed her condolences and confirmed that city officials are working closely with federal agencies to investigate the accident.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everybody involved in this,” said Capt. Folio, echoing sentiments from Vince Neil’s representative, Worrick Robinson IV, who also thanked first responders for their swift action.
This collision comes amid a troubling period for aviation incidents in the United States, marking the fourth major accident in just two weeks.
Aircraft Incidents in Arizona
Arizona’s busy airspace, especially in hubs like Scottsdale Airport, plays a significant role in the state’s transportation network. As a popular destination for private jets, particularly during high-profile events such as the Waste Management Phoenix Open, the area experiences high volumes of air traffic. While aviation incidents are relatively rare, mechanical failures, such as the landing gear malfunction in this case, underscore the importance of rigorous aircraft maintenance and stringent safety checks.
The collision in Scottsdale highlights the critical role of emergency response teams and the need for robust safety protocols at smaller regional airports, which often handle a mix of commercial, private, and charter flights. Although major airports typically have extensive resources to handle emergencies, smaller facilities may face unique challenges in responding to accidents.
For those affected by aviation accidents, immediate medical care and psychological support are paramount. Even non-fatal incidents can leave lasting physical and emotional impacts. Additionally, legal counsel is often necessary to navigate the complexities of liability, especially when mechanical failures or potential negligence are factors in the incident.
