Scottsbluff, NE (September 5, 2024) – Two people lost their lives in a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday, September 3. Scottsbluff police identified the victims as Buford Williams, 88, and Benita Williams, 81, both from Scottsbluff. The crash occurred around 3:28 p.m. on U.S. Hwy 26 when Buford Williams, driving a Nissan SUV, turned onto Ave I and was struck by a westbound Mazda pickup.
The pickup’s driver, Tony Betancur, 74, of Mitchell, was extricated and treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Regional West Medical Center.
Authorities believe seat belts were used by everyone involved. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
