Scott County, VA (February 21, 2025) – A patient who was inside an ambulance involved in a crash on Wednesday has died, according to the Virginia State Police. Authorities have not yet determined whether the patient’s death resulted from injuries sustained in the crash or other medical causes.
The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Route 23 near mile marker 18. According to officials, a Scott County Life Saving Crew ambulance was traveling northbound when it crossed the centerline on a curve and crashed. At the time of the accident, the ambulance was carrying a driver, two EMTs, and a patient.
The two EMTs sustained injuries in the crash but are expected to recover. Police have charged the ambulance driver with failure to maintain control. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash and the cause of the patient’s death.
